Re-mastered ‘Sound of Music’ hits the silver screen again

Celebrating the 60th anniversary of mid 60s ever-popular musical movie ‘Sound of Music’, digitally re-mastered version is now in theatres in Colombo. The 1965 American musical drama produced and directed by Robert Wise from a screenplay written by Ernest Lehman will be a treat to many who experienced the golden hit movies of yesteryear Hollywood.
A cinematic adaptation of Richard Rodgers 1959 stage musical with lyrics by Oscar Hammerstein II, the iconic musical ‘The Sound of Music’ will be an opportunity to experience the breathtaking theatrical presentation of Rodgers and Hammerstein’s.

Set in Salzburg, Austria, the film is also based on the 1949 memoir ‘The Story of the Trapp Family Singers’ by Maria von Trapp.
‘Meticulously restored and re-mastered in 4K for its 60th anniversary, the beloved classic is more brilliant than ever with pristine picture and sound. In this true-life story, Julie Andrews lights up the screen as Maria, a spirited young woman who leaves the convent and becomes a governess to the seven unruly children of Captain von Trapp. Her warmth, charm and songs soon win the hearts of the children and their father. But when the threat of war rises, Maria is forced to attempt a daring escape with her new family’ statement on the new production noted.
‘One of the most successful movie musicals of all time, ‘The Sound of Music’ features unforgettable treasures like ‘Edelweiss’, ‘My Favourite Things’, ‘Climb Ev’ry Mountain’ and ‘Do- Re-Mi’’ it added.
The film stars Julie Andrews and Christopher Plummer, with Richard Haydn, Peggy Wood, and Eleanor Parker in the lead roles together with seven children who starred (from oldest to youngest) Charmian Carr as Liesl, Nicholas Hammond as Friedrich, Heather Menzies-Urich as Louisa, Duane Chase as Kurt, Angela Cartwright as Brigitta, Debbie Turner as Marta and Kym Karath as Gretel.
Celebrating its 50th anniversary, in 2015 ‘Sound of Music’ was issued on Blu-ray Disc and DVD and now it is available in 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray.
Restored and re-mastered in 4K image resolution by the Walt Disney Film Restoration team for over nine months, the film has been digitally scanned from preserved film.

The film will be screned from September 20 to 30 at CCC and PVR theatres.
