Maris Stella and Lyceum Wattala top as overall champions

Maris Stella College athletes celebrate after being crowned Boys’ Overall Champions
Ayomal Akalanka of Ambagamuwa Central College was crowned Best Athlete among the boys who competed in the 2025 edition. He set a new meet record in the 400m hurdles with a stunning 46.59 seconds, scoring 1072 points. His dominant run also earned him the title of Best 400m Runner of the championship. Jithmi Wijethunga of Lyceum International School, Wattala claimed the Best Athlete Girls award with a powerful performance in the 400m, finishing in 53.87 seconds to earn 1055 points.
Other outstanding performances included from Tharusha Dinushan Mendis of Lyceum Wattala, who cleared 2.15m in the high jump to set a new meet record and score 1046 points, and St. Peter’s College jumper T. Sandil, who cleared 7.51m in the long jump for 1032 points.

Lyceum International School, Wattala clinched the Girls’ Overall Championship
In the overall standings, Maris Stella College topped the Boys’ Category with 115 points. St. Benedict’s College finished as first runners-up with 103 points, while Lyceum Wattala was placed second runners-up with 94.5 points. Lyceum Wattala emerged as the Girls’ Champions with a commanding 239 points. Walala A. Ratnayake Central College, with 158 points, and Dharmapala Vidyalaya, Pannipitiya with 82 points, secured the runners-up places.

Lyceum Wattala also lifted the Outstation Overall Boys’ Championship title with 94.5 points. St. Joseph’s Vaz College, Wennappuwa finished second with 86 points, and Maris Stella College claimed third with 57 points. In the Girls’ Outstation category, Walala A. Ratnayake Central College dominated with 158 points, followed by Dharmapala Vidyalaya, Pannipitiya who finished with 82 points. Ave Maria Convent, Negombo, and Holy Cross College, Gampaha shared the third place with 42 points each.
In the Age Group Championships, Maris Stella College won the Under-16 Boys’ title with 61 points, while Lyceum Wattala claimed the Under-16 Girls’ crown with 63 points. Walala A. Ratnayake Central secured the Under-18 Boys’ title with 44 points, and Lyceum Wattala dominated the Under-18 Girls’ section with 114 points. In the Under-20 category, St. Benedict’s College emerged as Boys’ Champions with 38 points, while Lyceum Wattala collected 81 points to take the Girls’ crown.
St. Benedict’s excelled in track events with 70 points, while Maris Stella collected 68 points to lead the Boys’ field events. Lyceum Wattala stamped their authority by winning both the Girls’ field events with 48 points and track events with 210 points. In the relays, St. Benedict’s led the Boys’ category with 35 points, and Lyceum Wattala took the Girls’ crown with 52 points.
This year’s edition will be remembered for its record breaking performances. In total, 33 new meet records were set, with Akalanka’s breathtaking hurdles run and Mendis’ soaring high jump standing out as historic feats.
