CCC, Nugegoda S&WC, Bloomfield, Negombo CC reach semis
The SLC Under-23 Emerging Club quarter-final encounters which concluded yesterday saw three batsmen Pavan Ratnayake and Anjala Bandara, both of CCC, and Pulindu Perera of Nugegoda S&WC cracking tons to help their teams come out on top to and to book semi-final berths. The completion of the quarter-finals saw CCC, Nugegoda S&WC, Bloomfield and Negombo CC advance to the semi-finals after gaining first inning wins against Moors SC, SSC, Ace Capital and Chilaw Marians.
The matches also saw three fine centuries with Ratnayake making the highest of 194 runs in 208 balls inclusive of 22 boundaries and a six while Bandara struck 156 off 178 balls with 15 boundaries and three sixes. The pair shared a massive 260-run stand for the fourth wicket to help CCC post a formidable score of 459-7 in response to Moors SC’s 235 and gain a comfortable first innings win.
Meanwhile in-form Pulindu Perera missed out on a second double ton following his 223 against Army SC last week as he was dismissed for 178 after hitting 26 boundaries and two sixes. This was Perera’s fourth ton of the tournament. His knock saw Nugegoda S&WC reach a total of 355 resuming from their overnight score of 186-2 in reply to SSC’s 127. Bloomfield recorded an easy first innings win over Ace Capital and in contrast Negombo CC managed a close first innings win over Chilaw Marians.
