Pri Holds the Membership Upgrading Ceremony

The Plastics and Rubber Institute of Sri Lanka, the premier Professional body of the Plastics and Rubber industry in the country,held its membership Awarding and upgrading ceremony at their plush Auditorium in Rajagiriya.

A distinguish gathering of professionals were in attendance to Grace the occasion. President of PRI Mr. Vidyaratne conducted the proceedings.

The purpose of this exercise was to install members as well as to upgrade the Associate Members to full membership while the highest grade of the Institute ie the Fellowship (FPRI) is awarded to those eminently qualified academically as well as professionally plus experience.

The PRI inaugurated in the early 60s by a group of industrialists, polymer scientists and professionals to service the Rubber industry. However in mid 70s the rubber institute strategically amalgamated with the Plastics Institute and formed the PRI. Both rubber and  Plastics being high polymers in scientific jargon.

The main objectives and  activities are education in science and technology in the polymer field. Courses are conducted starting from Technicia level to Diploma and Graduate level.

The institute periodically organise technical seminars and conferences in both fields.

Regular feature is the annual Complast and Rubber Expo International exhibition, usually held at the BMICH, Colombo. At the last show in August this year, there were 200 exhibitor, both foreign and local.
