Royal’s Thesath shines in squash
View(s):Royal College’s rising star, Thesath Kemitha Hapuarachchi, emerged as one of Sri Lanka’s most promising young squash players, capping his career so far with the prestigious Most Promising Junior Squash Player 2025 award.
Currently a 11th-year student at Royal, Thesath first picked up a racket at the age of nine under the guidance of his lifelong coach, Mahesh Chandana, who continues to shape his journey on the court. Since then, his dedication and consistent training have propelled him onto both the national and international stage.
Between 2022 and 2025, Thesath has proudly represented Sri Lanka at four editions of the Asian Junior Squash Championships, competing in countries such as Thailand, China, Pakistan, and South Korea. His performances abroad have been complemented by strong showings locally, where he has collected several tournament titles.
At the recently concluded 36th National Junior Squash Championship 2025, he finished as runner-up in the Under-17 category and secured fourth place in the Under-19 event, a testament to his growing stature in both age groups. With his latest recognition, Thesath now stands as one of the brightest hopes for Sri Lanka’s squash future.
