Moratuwa SC gained top honours against Navy SC at the end of first day’s play in the SLC Under-23 Emerging Club 2-day Cricket Tournament encounter played at Welisara yesterday. Moratuwa SC, in reply to Navy’s score of 158 ended opening day in a strong position of 170-4. Their response was helped by an unbeaten half ton by Isula Kaushalya, who was part of two valuable partnerships, both of 47 runs. For the fourth wicket, he paired up with Vidura Lakshan and went on to form an unbroken fifth wicket with Sahan Kaushalya

Earlier, Navy SC, put into bat, had an early setback when they lost two wickets on five. They recovered through two partnerships of 46 runs for the third wicket between Uvindu Perera and Dinosh Jelon and a 43-run stand for the fifth wicket between skipper Sumalka Fernando and Ridma Colombage, which enabled them to reach 158 runs. The match ends today.
