‘Vibes of Yesterday’: A Night of Nostalgia to celebrate NKAR turning 45 years
View(s):Get ready for a night of music, memories, and pure nostalgia as NKAR celebrates its 45th anniversary in grand style. The travel giant is set to present ‘Vibes of Yesterday’, a dazzling show that will light up the BMICH on Saturday, August 30 2025. With the curtain rising at 7.00 pm, the stage is set for an unforgettable evening that promises to take audiences on a timeless musical journey.
More than just an evening of entertainment, the concert is dedicated to the fight against cancer, with all proceeds (after applicable taxes) channelled towards this vital cause, making the milestone celebration not only memorable but also deeply meaningful.
Adding star power to the celebration, ‘Vibes of Yesterday’ will bring together some of Sri Lanka’s most loved voices. The line-up features Noeline Honter, Mariazelle Goonetilleke, Keerthi Pasquel and Rukshan Perera, with music powered by the renowned band Xpression, led by Manjula Martis. Audiences can expect a nostalgic journey through the golden hits of the ’70s, ’80s and ’90s, guaranteed to set the BMICH buzzing with energy.
Guiding the evening will be none other than Clifford Richards, one of the most iconic personalities in Sri Lankan entertainment, whose trademark versatility and charm have made him a household name. He will be joined on stage by the vibrant Sharon De Bruin, known affectionately as Lulu in the local music scene, ensuring the show flows with sparkle and flair from start to finish.
The show is expected to run for nearly three hours of non-stop entertainment, blending music and dance into a spectacle that appeals across generations. A lively Sri Lankan dance troupe will open the stage with vibrant moves in Western-inspired fashion, followed by a rhythmic Rastafari-style group delivering a performance full of energy and flair, adding diversity to the evening’s cultural mix.
But ‘Vibes of Yesterday’ is only one part of NKAR’s ‘Year of Sustainable Celebrations’, a year-long programme designed to mark the company’s 45th anniversary not just with festivities, but with meaningful initiatives. NKAR Travels and Tours, one of Sri Lanka’s most respected destination management companies, has placed sustainability at the heart of its milestone year, aligning celebration with community impact.
Among the highlights so far was a Movie Night held at the NKAR office premises, where staff enjoyed an evening of entertainment and learning. The event showcased the company’s journey alongside the story of Sri Lanka’s tourism industry, featuring a rare promotional film produced three decades ago to market the island abroad.
In June, NKAR hosted its largest sustainability initiative to date, the Charity Challenge by Team NKAR, a 20 km cycling event that drew more than 60 staff participants and introduced over six eco-friendly and community-driven projects. Conceptualised by NKAR Chairman and Managing Director Nilmin Nanayakkara, the Charity Challenge underscored the company’s philosophy of combining celebration with purpose, encouraging staff to champion greener lifestyles while raising awareness for social responsibility.
The 20 km cycling trail was divided into two segments, with a refreshment stop at the halfway point. In keeping with its sustainability ethos, NKAR chose not to partner with major brands but instead sourced refreshments from small-scale local vendors, reinforcing its commitment to empowering communities.
The initiative also carried a strong humanitarian focus. Funds raised by NKAR staff were sufficient to purchase four wheelchairs and the company doubled this amount to donate a total of eight wheelchairs to individuals in need. With over 120 participants in total, the event was hailed as a resounding success.
