Yevan David making waves in global motor racing
For a country better known for its heroics in cricket pitches, this is an unprecedented leap into the world of elite single-seater racing. David’s arrival at FIA F3 level is not just a personal triumph, but a defining chapter in Sri Lanka’s sporting story, one that could inspire a new generation to look beyond the traditional sporting arenas.
Currently competing in the Euroformula Open Championship, David has enjoyed a stellar season, amassing four race victories and securing a further five podium finishes. Earlier this month, he demonstrated his adaptability by achieving a top-10 finish in the fiercely competitive GB3 Championship, further underlining his credentials.
In 2024, his first full season of single-seater racing after moving on from a successful karting career, David competed in a whirlwind programme spanning Eurocup-3, Spanish F4, and UAE F4. That year was about learning the craft, adapting to different cars, and building experience across diverse circuits, a foundation that has clearly paid off.
With the move to AIX Racing in FIA F3, David now faces an entirely new challenge: racing on some of the world’s most demanding tracks alongside the stars of tomorrow, many of whom are knocking on the door of Formula 1. For Sri Lankan motorsport, it is a moment of validation. For David, it is the realisation of a childhood dream.
Speaking after the announcement, a proud David expressed his gratitude and determination.
“Very thankful to have this opportunity to be racing as the first Sri Lankan driver in Formula 3, and with AIX Racing,” he said. “They’ve proved themselves and I’m excited to achieve great milestones with them for the season ahead.”
The choice of AIX Racing could prove decisive. Known for their meticulous engineering and strong driver development ethos, the German squad has been steadily building a reputation in F3 for nurturing emerging talent.
As the 2026 FIA F3 season draws closer, the scale of the challenge ahead cannot be understated. The calendar will see David racing at legendary venues such as Silverstone, Spa-Francorchamps, and Monza, often as a support category to Formula 1. The combination of high-pressure weekends, tight competition, and the demands of car development will test every facet of his ability.
For Sri Lankan fans, next season’s FIA F3 Championship will carry a special significance. Every qualifying session, every wheel-to-wheel battle, and every chequered flag will be followed closely, not just by motorsport enthusiasts but by a nation unaccustomed to seeing its flag represented on the international racing grid.
