Matale’s Battle of Brothers resumes after a decade

After a lapse of 10 years, the ninth annual limited overs cricket encounter of the ‘Battle of Brothers’, the big match between the two of the oldest institutions in the Matale city — Christ Church College and Vijaya College — will be played on Thursday, August 7, at the Bernard Aluvihare Stadium in Matale.

Out of eight matches played so far, Vijaya College leads the series tally by 4-3 with the inaugural match ending in a no decision, as it was abandoned halfway due to heavy rain.

Vijaya College

Allrounder Charith Wickramasinghe will lead Christ Church College with another promising player, Harshamal Weerakoon as his deputy while Vijaya College will be led by Randipa Kohonage with Visal Batakanda as his deputy. Both teams are well balanced and according to the performances this year Christ Church College holds the edge over Vijaya College.

Christ Church College will be represented by Shehan Bandara, Isuru Jayalath, Hasaranga, M. Gunasekara, A. Premaratne, D. Serasinghe, H.Jayalath, Ratnayake, A. Rashad, Y. Egodage, M. Mullegama, S. Gamage and I. Safri. The side is coached by Asanka Thotagamuwa, who is assisted by Geemantha Senanayake.

Vijaya College includes Malith Bandara, Yohan Weerakkody, R. Golukadura, R. Ekanayake, Ranithu Bandara, S. Dolapihilla, T. Dilshan, I. Herath, L. Wickramasinghe, D. Wijebandara, D. Wijeratne, M. Golukadura and A. Wijesekara, and is coached by Thiwanka Nipun Abeyrathna.
