New organisation to take up cause of retired war heroes and families of fallen personnel

A newly formed organis-ation,‘Dividena Ranaviru Padanama’ (DRP), was launched on Wednesday, to bring together retired war heroes and the families of fallen service personnel under one banner.
Calling on retired personnel from the Army, Navy, Air Force, Police and Civil Defence Force, and families of fallen personnel also to join them, the organisation’s president former Army Commander Mahesh Senanayake told a news conference that their aim was to address long-standing issues faced by these personnel and family members.

With the motto “Unmatched,” the organisation will be the voice for Sri Lanka’s veterans, many of whom bear lifelong scars of war, General (Retd) Senanayake said.
Operating islandwide across provinces, districts and grama sevaka divisions, the organisation has several core objectives: regaining lost dignity for veterans, providing welfare for injured servicemen and bereaved families, and offering educational scholarships to their children.
One of its key aims is to begin a dialogue with government authorities to resolve many issues, affecting the veteran community, General (retd) Senanayake said.
