Following an exhilarating first round that showcased exceptional talent across Sri Lanka’s premier rugby schools, teams have now been strategically divided into Cup, Plate, and Bowl championships based on their initial performances.

The Cup segment features the tournament’s standout performers, with six powerhouse schools demonstrating their championship credentials in the opening round. Wesley College emerged as the Group 1A champions with a commanding performance, winning all five matches whilst scoring 27 tries and maintaining exceptional defensive discipline. They conceded only 19 tries. Their 29 points reflect consistent excellence throughout the first round. Defending champions St. Peter’s College claimed the runners-up position in this group with 20 points and will look to move past their rather disappointing performances.

S. Thomas’ College delivered a flawless performance in Group 2A, securing five consecutive victories and earning 30 points, establishing themselves as early tournament favorites. Isipathana College secured second place in this group with 24 points, demonstrating resilience with four wins from five matches. Trinity College leads Group 3A with 30 points, having won all five of their group games, followed by Royal College, who were placed second with 24 points.

The second round spans four weeks, from July 14 to August 10, with each week promising captivating encounters. The sixth week opens with three mouth-watering Cup segment fixtures, as Isipathana face Wesley in what promises to be a tactical masterclass. St. Peter’s will take on Royal in a clash between two schools renowned for their rugby heritage and rivalry. The week concludes with S. Thomas’ hosting Trinity in what could be the standout fixture of the opening round.

The seventh week sees the competition intensify further, with Wesley facing Royal in a highly anticipated contest. Isipathana will test their mettle against Trinity, whilst S. Thomas’ welcome St. Peter’s to their home ground in what promises to be a thrilling encounter.

The penultimate week features Trinity against Wesley, Royal hosting traditional rivals S. Thomas’, and St. Peter’s entertaining Isipathana at their home ground. These fixtures will likely determine the Cup segment finalists. The final week of the second round culminates with Wesley playing against S. Thomas’, Trinity battling out against St. Peter’s at Pallekele, and Royal facing Isipathana in what promises to be a spectacular conclusion to this phase of the tournament.
