The Court of Appeal this week has prolonged its temporary injunction halting the Sri Lanka Automobile Sports (SLAS) election, pending further proceedings. Appeal Court judges Rohantha Abeysuriya and K. Priyantha Fernando presided over the case and scheduled the next hearing for September 11.

Counsel Akheel Deen, representing the complainant, argued that the Ceylon Motor Sports Club (CMSC) should be barred from participating in the SLAS election due to its breach of ministerial instructions. He contended that CMSC violated regulations by establishing direct contact with the Fédération Internationale de l’Automobile (FIA).

Deen referenced a gazette notification dated May 21, 2025, issued by the Minister of Sports, which explicitly forbids clubs from engaging in direct communication with international sporting bodies. Deputy Solicitor General Manohara Jayasinghe, representing the respondent, acknowledged these facts, and the court scheduled the matter for continued hearing.
