Colombo Aces crowned champions as SLPL 2025 wraps up a thrilling inaugural season
After three action-packed days of high-stakes rallies, roaring crowds, and unforgettable match moments, the curtain closed on the first-ever Sri Lanka Padel League (SLPL) with Colombo Aces emerging as the inaugural champions.
In a dramatic finale held at the Padel House, CR&FC, Colombo Aces defeated Galle Fort Mariners in a high-intensity tie that went the full distance. With one win apiece going into the Mixed Doubles, the Aces held their nerves to take the decider 6-2, 7-6 [7-4], etching their name into Sri Lankan sporting history.
“Every player showed up with heart and hunger. We knew it would come down to those last few points, and they held strong. Winning the very first SLPL title is something we’ll remember forever,” Viren Beruwalage, Co-owner of Colombo Aces, praised the resilience and chemistry of his team.
The league featured eight franchise teams battling it out across Men’s, Women’s and Mixed Doubles categories. Over the course of the tournament, spectators witnessed powerhouse performances, tactical masterclasses, and a spirit of competition that set a new standard for padel in Sri Lanka.
Yala Rangers claimed the third place in a tight contest over the Trinco Titans, while Ahangama Good Buggers, Unawatuna Makaras, The Recovery Room – Arugambay and Ella Archers completed the rankings in a weekend that saw every team fight with pride.
“What we saw last weekend was more than just a tournament. It was a statement – that Sri Lanka is ready to embrace padel at the highest level. The energy, the crowd, the players – it all came together better than we imagined,” expressed Karin Wijeratne, the Co-owner of SLPL, reflecting on the success of the league.
Players, too, were quick to praise the league atmosphere. One finalist remarked, “It genuinely felt like we were playing a professional padel tournament abroad. From the crowd to the court setup, everything was world class.”
With broadcasts on Peo Sports 1 and free nationwide streaming via the Peo Mobile App, the SLPL brought the excitement of padel to screens across Sri Lanka — thanks to the support of title partner Spa Ceylon, powered-by partner Uber One, and a lineup of dynamic brand partners.
