More foreign scholarships for local students: Deputy Min
View(s):The Education Ministry plans to increase the number of scholarships offered to local students to enter foreign universities.
Deputy Minister of Education Madhura Senevirathne told Education Times that the ministry plans to increase the scholarships to over 200, with further negotiations underway to add more universities.
He said the scholarships are being offered in universities in UK, Australia, Singapore, Japan, Commonwealth countries and Cuba among others.
Beneficiaries of the scholarship schemes will be selected based on the Z-score marks.
The scholarships will be available when students register for local universities.
The deputy minister said they were looking to offer the scholarships in robotics, information communication technology and agriculture.
The scholarships will be distributed evenly across the country.
The ministry is also looking to offer 800 internships in foreign universities. (DWI)
