Marking Archives Week at CHDM

View(s):

The Collective for Historical Dialogue and Memory will be marking International Archives Week with a special screening and discussion of the documentary film Looted & Hidden – Palestinian Archives in Israel by Rona Sela. It will be screened on Thursday, June 12 at 5.30 p.m. at 25 Elibank Road, Colombo 5.

Looted and Hidden deals with Palestinian archives that were looted or seized by Israel or Jewish forces during the 20th century and are controlled and buried in Israeli military archives. It raises questions about archival institutions in colonial countries and zones of conflict, and points to the need to dig into the hidden in order to reveal what has been erased or rewritten.

Other events planned for June include the screening of Yasujiro Ozu’s 1953 classic Tokyo Story on Wednesday, June 18 at 5.30 p.m. as part of the film series War, Violence and the Moving Image. These events are free and open to the public.
