Chanul helps DSS recover in 19th Battle of the Golds
A top knock of 73, inclusive of nine boundaries and three sixes by Chanul Athale helped D.S. Senanayake College recover against traditional rivals Mahanama College on day two of the 19th Battle of the Golds big match at the SSC ground yesterday.

DSS, in reply to Mahanama’s score of 235, resumed from their overnight score of 13-0 and fell into deep trouble after openers Bihan Gamage and Janidu Ranasinghe put on a stand of 53. The separation of the pair saw DSS losing wickets at regular intervals and was struggling on 87-6 before Chanul, along with Daham Nirmal saved them with a valuable 61-run stand for the seventh wicket. Chanul shared another brief stand of 30 runs for the eighth wicket with Dilash Karunanayke. This followed with Dilash putting on a 65-run stand for the ninth wicket which helped DSS end their innings with a respectable score of 249 runs, 14 runs ahead.
Mahanama, batting the second time, ended the day on 93-0 in 14 overs with Dulnith Sigera making an unbeaten half ton in 41 balls inclusive of three fours and three sixes. The match will continue today.
