Nagarro’s TestingPro empowers Neurodiverse Talent in Tech
Neurodivergent individuals often encounter feelings of difference, masking their true selves, and the impact of diagnosis and acceptance, struggle with social situations, sensory overload, and fitting in.
To make these choices easy for them, in 2016, Nagarro and Specialsterne launched TestingPro, a neuro-inclusion programme aimed at empowering neurodivergent individuals to become professional Software Testers or AI and Data assistants in Austria.
Nagarro, a leader in digital engineering, launched the same programme in Colombo last week, envisioning providing job coaching and mentorship, ensuring smooth integration into organisations which need such capabilities.
Nagarro has trained 104 individuals and expanded to India in 2023 through collaboration with an organisation. Managing Director Shruti Tandon, People Enablement at Nagarro, told The Sunday Times Business on the sidelines of the recent launch, noting that launching in Sri Lanka took about eight months of preparation. “The programme takes a thorough, individualised approach, focusing on unique learning styles and providing personalised support.”
TestingPro partners help participants find jobs by connecting them with partner companies, arranging interviews, and preparing them for placements, she noted, adding, Nagarro partners with various organisations, including those focusing on disabilities, to create job opportunities and a broad network.
She also noted that Deloitte, SLASSCOM and Trace will be some of the organisations that partner with Nagarro in implementing this programme. “Nagarro’s diversity and inclusion mindset runs through its entire organisation. It will play a crucial role in sharing programme insights and best practices related to the programme with the broader industry, promoting awareness and understanding of autism in the workplace.”
The programme aims to train people with autism and similar challenges to become software testers, prepare them for the job market and allow them to offer their unique skills to businesses.
The programme’s placement rate is over 75 per cent, demonstrating its quality and practical orientation. Ms. Tandon said, noting that TestingPro is evaluated annually and makes necessary improvements based on participant, employer, and stakeholder feedback, ensuring its adaptability to changing market dynamics.
