Emirates has 65 Airbus A350s as well as a mix of 205 Boeing 777X aircraft on order, currently operating the largest B777 fleet of 134 aircraft and the largest A380 fleet of 116 aircraft, a senior Emirates official said.
“We recently began taking delivery of the A350s, our newest aircraft type which are earmarked for short and medium haul routes in the Middle East and GCC, West Asia and Europe, and we have already announced the first 16 destinations for this new aircraft. Sri Lanka is one of the destinations where we have deployed an A350 aircraft featuring latest interiors, industry-first technologies and innovations, reinforcing our commitment to a market we have served for 39 years, and offering exceptional levels of comfort onboard,” said Rashid Al Ardha, Emirates Country Manager – Sri Lanka & Maldives in a recent interview with The Sunday Times Business.
Sri Lanka is experiencing an increase in tourist traffic, with arrivals up 3 per cent in the first three months of 2025. To reaffirm its commitment to supporting travel to and from Sri Lanka, Emirates recently increased its flight frequency to four daily – three direct services between Dubai and Colombo and one via Male.
He said while Sri Lanka is a popular destination with an appeal that is quite universal, due to airline’s connectivity for destination network in Europe, the Americas and Africa, most of the passengers are from the West.
Emirates has been responsible for many firsts in global aviation, and continue to break ground with its new aircraft, the A350.
“In addition to our signature next-generation products and award-winning service, customers can also look forward to cutting-edge tech touches like wireless charging in Business Class, electric window blinds with the Emirates Ghaf tree motif when closed in premium classes, new touchscreen call bell buttons on ice inflight entertainment screens, digital inflight menus on ice screens, 60-watt USB C charging in every seat, with the ability to pair personal Bluetooth headphones,” he said. The next-generation version of the airline’s inflight entertainment system offers cinematic displays and stunning 4K and 4K HDR set on ultra-responsive touchscreens for seamless navigation, as well as the ability to skip credits and intros on videos and an ‘eye comfort mode’ to reduce blue light exposure, among a host of many other features.
