Bleak weather on the cards
View(s):Scattered showers and spells of thunderstorms may occur in several parts of the country with the approach of the Intertropical Convergence Zone, the Meteorological Department stated.
While periods of showers will continue to impact Western, Sabaragamuwa, Central, Southern, Uva, Eastern, and North-Central provinces in the mornings, fairly heavy rainfall exceeding 75mm is forecasted mainly after 1p.m, with a few showers ahead of the main cluster of showers or thunderstorms.
Generally, heavier rainfall is forecasted for the Western province. Gusty winds and street flash flooding are possible in some parts of the province.
Misty conditions can be also expected at some places in Central and Uva provinces during the morning, the department said.
The general public is kindly requested to take adequate precautions to minimise damage caused by temporary localised strong winds and lightning during thunderstorms.
However the Disaster Management Centre has reported that more than a hundred people residing in Puttalam, Kegalle and Anuradhapura districts have faced hardships due to lighting, heavy rains and accidents that have occurred due to fallen trees. So far no major damages were reported, the centre added.
