Panel discussion on disaster risk management and climate change held at LKI

A panel discussion on ‘Enhancing disaster risk management and climate change response: Collaborative efforts by Japan and Australia in IORA member countries’, organised by the Lakshman Kadirgamar Institute (LKI) took place on March 28, at the lighthouse auditorium of the institute.

Speaking on the contribution of Lakshman Kadirgamar Institute (LKI) to the Indian Ocean Rim Association (IORA), Executive Director of LKI, Ravinatha Aryasinha delivered the welcome address.

Japanese ambasador Mizukoshi Hideaki delivered the opening remarks followed by the keynote speech by Foreign Affairs state minister Tharaka Balasuriya.
Following the state minister’s speech, a discussion headed by Professor Turney Pradeep Kumara of the Department of Oceanography and Marine Geology of the University of Ruhuna, the first political and economic Secretary of the Australian High Commission in Colombo Dr Paul Zeccola, Chief Representative of the Japan International Cooperation Agency Tetsuya Yamada and Research Economist at the Institute of Policy Studies (IPS) Dr Pulasthi Amarasinghe took place.

The discussion was moderated by Nilupul Gunawardena, Research Fellow (Global Governance) at LKI.
