CA allows AG to make submissions on Dr Kapila Wickremanayake’s bail application

The Court of Appeal has allowed the Attorney General to make submissions next Monday on a bail application on behalf of Dr Kapila Wickremanayake, former Director of the Medical Supplies Division (MSD) currently in custody over theimport of substandard immunoglobulin.
The bail application had been taken up before Justice D N Samarakoon this week without notice to the respondents, including the Attorney General.
However, soon after the Attorney General was alerted that the application was being taken up in court, measures were taken to submit a motion and send Deputy Solicitor General Nirmalan Wigneswaran to court.
DSG Wigneswaran informed court that an opportunity should be granted to the AG before a ruling is made.
Accordingly, the AG has been allowed to make submissions on Monday on the matter.
Mr. Romesh de Silva, PC and Mr. Sarath Jayamanna, PC appeared for the petitioner.
