Ashel, Thewmika shine on day one

Tharushka Ashel from Isipathana College and Thurstan College skipper and right-arm spinner Vihas Thewmika showcased their skills on the first day of the 61st Battle of The Brothers at the SSC ground yesterday. Ashel scored 102 runs, including 12 boundaries, guiding Isipathana to a total of 250 for 9 declared.
Thewmika made an early breakthrough by dismissing Isipathana opener Ruchith Rodrigo. However, Ashel’s partnerships were crucial, including 45 runs with Navindu Umeth for the second wicket, 55 runs with Kevin Samuel for the fourth wicket, and 43 runs with Ranmith Senarath for the fifth wicket, boosting Isipathana’s total.
Thurstan, after facing 14 overs, ended the day at 53 for 1. The match ends today.
