First unofficial Test match fizzles out to a draw
The first unofficial Test match between Sri Lanka Emerging XI and the visiting Bangladesh Emerging XI concluded at the Rangiri Dambulla Stadium in a tame draw yesterday, after much of play was interrupted by rain.
Sri Lanka Emerging XI, set to chase a massive target of 351 runs for victory, was struggling on 69 for 5 when heavy rain and bad light put a stoppage to proceedings. The outcome of the match was visible when play ended on day three with Sri Lanka Emerging XI ending the day on 298 for 7 which came on the back of tons made by Navod Paranavithana and skipper Sonal Dinusha in reply to the visitor’s score of 502 for 9 declared.
In the morning sessions Sri Lanka Emerging XI, making a declaration on their overnight score, gave Bangladesh Emerging XI a lead of 203 runs and the visitors declared at 147 for 9 batting for the second time. The two teams will play their second unofficial Test match starting from November 1 at the same venue.
