Empowering the Next Generation of Leaders: SLIIT’s Inauguration Welcomes New Students

SLIIT welcomed students for the new intake to its Faculty of Computing, Engineering, Humanities and Sciences and Business, as well as to SLIIT International, which offers programmes in partnership with the University of Queensland, Liverpool John Moore, and Manchester Metropolitan University. The three-day-long inauguration ceremony took place on May 15-17, 2023, in SLIIT Malabe premises. In addition to the inauguration held at SLIIT’s main campus in Malabe, the university also commenced inaugurations in parallel at its regional centres in Kandy, Jaffna, Matara, and Kurunegala expanding its reach and impact across the whole of Sri Lanka.

Speaking at the event, the Chancellor of SLIIT, Professor Lakshman Rathanayake, said, “I would like to welcome all the new students that joined the SLIIT family. Like planting the seeds of knowledge, we nurture the potential of our students, empowering them to blossom into the leaders and innovators of tomorrow. Our collective goal is to create a learning environment that is both challenging and stimulating, inspiring our students to achieve their full potential. Let us strive to empower them with the skills and knowledge necessary to make a meaningful impact in the world. I encourage you all to take an active role in shaping your educational experience, to collaborate with your peers and professors, and to embrace lifelong learning and continuous personal and professional development. At the same time, do not forget to enjoy the time at SLIIT, Make memories with friends and build friendships that last a lifetime.”

Established in 1999, SLIIT is a University Grants Commission-recognised institute that has become a symbol of excellence in private tertiary education in Sri Lanka. The institution is a member of the Association of Commonwealth Universities (ACU) and the International Association of Universities (IAU) and was the first Sri Lankan institute to be accredited by the Institution of Engineering and Technology, UK. SLIIT is ranked among the top 750 Asian higher education institutions in the QS Asia University Rankings 2023 and produces highly employable graduates in IT and other industries, with a 96% employment rate.
