SLSI: Locally canned fish being sold without certification

View(s):

The Sri Lanka Standards Institute (SLSI) has stressed the importance of carrying the SLS certification on locally manufactured canned fish products.

In a media release the SLSI said it has been brought to their attention that many locally-canned fish products were being sold without SLS certification.

The public are asked to complain to the Consumer Affairs Authority (CAA) if they come across such products, while issues about the quality should be directed to the SLSI as ensuring quality of these products being sold under various brand names was the responsibility of the SLSI.

The release pointed out that it was mandatory that these products had the required parameters to receive SLSI approval.

Meanwhile, SLSI spokesman Sunanda Fernando said imported canned fish go through the stringent import inspection process before being released to the market.

The SLSI stressed that it was the responsibility of the CAA to take action against uncertified local canned fish being sold in the market.
