Over hundred thousand broken, spoiled eggs dumped into a Walapalawa forest reserve had been detected by the Puttalam District office of the Consumer Affairs Authority (CAA).

CAA officials said that they searched the area within the reserve after residents complained that a large number of eggs had been dumped there.

The officials said some villagers who had got a strong odour emanating  from the reserve had ventured into the reserve and had detected a large number of eggs.

Later the police and the CAA were alerted.

When these officials visited the site they found hundreds of broken eggs. CAA officials said they suspect that a large-scale poultry egg producer had dumped the eggs in the reserve.
