Owned by Abans and managed by the Marriott group, the Courtyard by Marriott hotel opened its doors this week in Colombo targeting business travellers set within the Colombo City Centre that already houses a mall and other key amenities in one location.

It has an infinity pool on the 9th floor, 164 rooms with functional work areas and high speed Internet access with three dining venues namely the Beira Kitchen, an all-day dining restaurant with local international cuisines; Tito’s café that offers baked bread, coffee or tea and The Lounge with light beverages and assorted bites.

The hotel’s state-of-the-art banqueting facilities can host events and gatherings of varied sizes; and also has indoor meeting spaces spread over an area of 14, 500 sq. ft and are suited to accommodate both large and intimate gatherings. Recreational facilities at the hotel include a well-equipped 24-hour fitness centre and an outdoor swimming pool.

Courtyard by Marriott Sales Manager Enoch Weerasinghe told the Business Times during the media tour of the hotel that as a company they look at things positively and would be looking at the trends in the market and aim to develop the market.

A number of other Marriott hotels are to open later namely the Sheraton Colombo later this year, JW Marriott in Negombo next year and the Ritz Carlton as well.

Courtyard by Marriott has a staff strength of 160 and has a loyalty membership based on their 8500 hotels around the world.

Mr. Weerasinghe noted that they will be looking positively at the prospects of China opening its borders and it is believed that things will fall in place this year with a revival of the tourism industry.

“We offer a prime location for business or leisure travel – or a blend of both – and look forward to providing excellent comfort, functionality, and guest services to both national and international travelers,” said Elton Hurtis, General Manager of Courtyard by MarriottColombo.

This is Marriott’s third hotel in Sri Lanka with the first being opened in 2017 Weligama Bay and the Sheraton in Kosgoda.
