St. Nicholas’ International College in Colombo, a pioneer in international education in Sri Lanka, recently celebrated 31 years of educating students who continue to impact the world.

St. Nicholas’ International Principal Rev. Camillus Fernando recently spoke about the achievements, the history and its mission and vision of the school. These are excerpts from the interview.

“St. Nicholas’ was founded on September 9, 1991 under the patronage of Rt. Rev. Dr. Oswald Gomis, former Archbishop of Colombo, at Clifford Place in Colombo 04. More than 30 years later, after multiple expansions and relocations to accommodate more students, St. Nicholas’ found its home at Pelawatta in Battaramulla. It also has a branch school in Negombo, a predominantly Catholic area.”

“The school is currently under the guidance of His Eminence Colombo Archbishop Malcolm Cardinal Ranjith, who chairs the College’s Board of Governors.”

“St. Nicholas’ International has from the beginning set itself apart from other similar schools by being service-oriented instead of profit-motivated, aiming to provide a service to the area’s children, and the school’s fees are often half of that of other international schools.”

“The school follows the Cambridge Education Programme and conducts its O/Ls and A/Ls in partnership with Cambridge, and offers multiple mainstream subjects such as Maths, Chemistry, History and Religious Studies, where students are holistically taught all religions. Students from St. Nicholas’ have a 100% pass rate in the Commerce, Science and Maths streams for O/L and A/L exams.”

Rev. Fernando also noted that the Cambridge Degree qualification was recognised by universities in more than 160 countries across the world, and was highly respected by institutions.

“The school has facilities for extra-curricular activities and would have a partnership with Austasia Sports Complex to conduct sports activities including swimming, athletics, karate, badminton and more. The school participated in inter-school events to involve its student body with other Sri Lankan Schools, and has also participated in international events where it has won many awards.”

Rev. Fernando also said His Eminence Cardinal Malcolm Ranjith was actively involved in the school’s future and has planned many activities to enhance the school’s process of teaching. He meets with the Board of Directors every two months to discuss the direction of the school’s future and policies to develop the school.

He invited parents to visit the college and view its facilities and the process of educating students from their own perspective. Contact Rev. Fernando on 0773329400 for more details.
