Lochana and Gayathri win triple crowns at Uva Badminton Open
Lochana de Silva and Nadeesha Gayathri clinched triple crowns at the Uva Provincial Open All-Island Badminton Championship conducted by the Uva Provincial Badminton Association under the auspices of the Sri Lanka Badminton.
Held at the S. Thomas’ College Indoor Sports Complex in Bandarawela, Gayathri beat Anjalee Jayasundara in the Women’s Open final 2-0 (21-12, 21-12) before teaming up with Kavindika de Silva to defeat Chamya Nirmali and Kethaki Wedamulla 2-0 (21-12, 21-6) in the Women’s Doubles final. She went on to clinch her third title when she teamed up with Lochana to get the better off the combination of Hansa de Silva and Chamya Nirmali 2-0 (21-12, 21-9) in the Mixed Doubles final.
In the Men’s Signels final, Lochana beat Jason Homer 2-1 (21-18, 18-21, 21-12) after an evenly contested battle. He also bagged the Men’s Doubles title after teaming up with Rashintha de Silva to beat Diniru Rashmitha and Lahiru Weerasinghe in straight sets (21-16, 22-20) before winning the Mixed Doubles with Gayathri to complete his triple.
The President of Sri Lanka Badminton, Rohan de Silva, S. Thomas’ College Bandarawela Head Master Rev. Father Christopher Balraj and chief organiser Thilak Jayasiri were the special guests at the awards ceremony.
