University of Colombo School of Computing (UCSC) is pleased to announce the call for applications for the 20th intake of the Bachelor Information Technology (BIT) degree programme.

BIT is the first-ever external IT degree introduced in Sri Lanka in the year 2000 considering the job opportunities that exist for IT graduates in both Sri Lanka and overseas.

The BIT degree programme consists of a state-of-the-art curriculum that is being revised and updated regularly based on ACM/IEEE international guidelines, SLQF guidelines, and the demands of the IT industry.

Furthermore, the BIT is a very affordable degree programme as it costs only Rs. 75,300/= to University of Colombo for all three years plus teaching fees to be paid for the private teaching institutes.

The UCSC manages: registration, assist students in learning through an online environment, and conducts examinations. Additionally, teaching for the BIT degree programme is offered by more than 50 training institutes spread over the country. Visit BIT website for more details.

The BIT degree is highly recognised both locally and internationally as it is awarded by the University of Colombo.  During the last 19 years, BIT has been able to maintain its high employability rate which is over 90%. The majority of the BIT graduates are employed in local and international jobs which are in most sought-out and high-demand areas.

Due to the strength of the BIT curriculum, a significant number of BIT graduates were able to enter into postgraduate programmes in locals and foreign universities and some have even completed doctoral studies.

The minimum duration of the BIT degree programme is 3 academic years. There are multiple exit points that provide students with the opportunity to obtain a Diploma in IT (SLQF 3), Higher Diploma in IT (SLQF 4), and Degree in Bachelor of IT (SLQF 5) after successful completion of each year.

To be eligible to register for the BIT degree programme, you need to have 3 passes in G.C.E. A/L (New syllabus) in one sitting OR 4 passes in G.C.E. A/L (Old syllabus) in one sitting OR the FIT qualification offered by the UCSC (www.fit.bit.lk) AND should pass G.C.E. O/L with 3 credits including English & Mathematics. Students who are already registered in the state universities can also follow the BIT degree programme.
