Hailing from a school where the game of squash is not popular, D.H.T. Randina, a Nalandian carried the school flag high at the recently concluded 30th Junior Squash Nationals held at the Air Force Squash Complex in Ratmalana.

Randina was adjudged the Most Promising Player in the tournament. This talented young player, for his love for the game practice in a court booked on his own expenses and hires a coach paid by him.

Randina’s talents came into limelight at the second semi-final match in the Boys’  Under-19 category when Methmal Wood, a finalist had to fight all the way as Randina exhibited a fine quality of squash. It was a game that swung both ways but in the end the Nalandian went down fighting in a thrilling five setter.

Playing in the Under-17 finals against M.I.M. Asmone of D.S. Senanayake College, the promising youngster was unlucky to be in the losing side. Randina is not only a squash player. He excelled in cricket too as a member of the Nalanda College Under-17 cricket team. This lonely figure had brought credit to his alma mater in many occasions as a promising young squash player with a bright future ahead of him.
