Girls champions Seetha Devi Girls School, Kandy

Seetha Devi Girls School Kandy, led by Bhashini Perera, showed their class in hockey once again by winning the girls title at the National Schools Games Girls Under-20 Hockey Championship 2019 concluded at the Digana Sports Complex in Kandy.

Seetha Devi girls outplayed fancied Sri Sangamitta Girls NS Matale 5-2 on penalties after their closely contested final ended nil-all draw at full time. On the way to the finals Seetha Devi beat defending champions Janadhipathi Girls School, Nawala 2-1 on penalties in the quarter-final and went to beat last year runners-up Holy Family Convent, Wennappuwa 3-0 in the semi-final.

In the decider for the third place Holy Family Convent Wennappuwa overcame Swarnamali Balika Kandy by 2-0.

Roshini Rajapakshe of Seetha Devi GS, Kandy was named the Best Player. The four-day tournament was conducted by the Ministry of Education in association with the SLSHA with the participation of 24 girls teams from across the island. Seetha Devi GS team was coached by M.A.M. Ashroff and N. Pranitharan as his deputy.
