Education Minister Akila Viraj Kariyawasam, addressing a ceremony at Kuliyapitiya Central College, said Information Technology (IT)would be made compulsory in preparing future subject curricula. “In future, the whole Education structure will be based on IT, which has reached village level. The present Govt has taken steps to make IT accessible to almost all schools islandwide and of further improvements in training Teachers in the IT discipline,” he said.

This event was organized for the launch of the IT Yahamaga campaign sponsored by Sarvodaya and the Ministry of Education. The programme concerns the use of the internet, depending on the age based access to the facility for social development. Some students of the College were awarded IT scholarships by the Minister. Sarvodaya General Manager Isura Silva, Chief Executive Director Prof. Gihan Dias, and Training Manager of Domain D.D. Prabath participated at the ceremony.
