Rahula College and Sujatha Vidyalaya retained the overall boys and girls championships at the Matara District Swimming Championship organised by the Rahula Aquatic Sports Foundation for the second consecutive year. Brilliant Star International School and St. Mary’s Convent were runners-up. The meet was held at the Rahula College swimming pool.

Anush Dissanayake of Rahula College won all five events for boys in the Under-11 age group while Seneesa Dahamdi Gururge and Rubaya Amal Inthaaj both of Sujatha Vidyalaya won all five events in the girls Under-11 and Under-19 age groups respectively.

Shiral Lakthilake, a distinguished old boy of Rahula College, was the chief guest at the award ceremony.

“Swimming is a life skill. Every human being should be able to swim or at least stay afloat. All Sri Lankans should learn to stay afloat as our country is an island with many rivers and reservoirs. Sports and Education should go hand in hand. Most sportsmen have excelled in their studies. Even I spent most of my time training at the Uyanwatta ground but devoted as much time to my books,” he stated during his speech at the awards ceremony.
