Ananda College reign at ‘Cool Tennis’ 2017

Ananda College emerged winners in all three age group categories of Under-7 (Red Ball), Under-8 (Orange Ball) and Under-10 (Green Ball) with remarkable achievements at the Inter-School ‘Cool Tennis’ Tournament held at the Sri Lanka Tennis Association (SLTA) courts.

In the Under-7 Red Ball category Ananda beat St. Peter’s College (3-0) in the quarter-final; followed by a comprehensive victory against Royal College (3-2) in the semi-final. Ananda went on to beat Maliyadeva College (3-0) in the final and emerge champions. The young Anandians proved to be the best in that age category with only a loss of three matches.

The Orange Ball team entered the tournament as the favourites in the Under-8 category where Ananda beat Maliyadeva College (3-0) in the semi-final. They went on to overcome Kalutara Vidyalaya (3-1) to emerge champions after a challenging final. Ananda has won the Orange Ball category six times in its 8-year history at the tournament.

In the Boys Under-10 Green Ball category, Ananda beat St. Joseph’s College Negombo (3-0) in the quarter-finals. In the semi-final, Ananda beat S. Thomas’ College Mt. Lavinia (3-2) after a great battle, as they continued the momentum to beat Royal College (3-1) in the final and emerge champions.

In addition the Ananda ‘B’ teams went on to win the Under-10 Green Ball Division ‘B’ championship, Under-8 Orange Ball Division ‘B’ Championship, the Under-7 Red Ball Division ‘B’ runner-up title and the Under-7 Red Ball Division ‘B’ third place showing great promise for the future.

The Ananda College Junior teams have spread their dominance in the Tennis arena for the past eight years and continues to be victorious among the leading Tennis-playing schools in Sri Lanka. The teams were well supported by Ananda College authorities, team officials and the coaching staff, headed by former Anandian Anupa Mattamagoda.
