Left arm spinner Dellon Peiris continued to torment the opponents’ batting as he ended with another impressive bowling performance with a seven wicket haul to spin S. Thomas’ to their fourth outright win of the season and also helped his side beat the rain and Prince of Wales by 20 runs in their Under-19 inter-school cricket encounter concluded at Mt Lavinia yesterday.

Dellon who ended with a match bag of nine wickets last weekend finished with an impressive bowling figure of 7 for 23 in Cambrians second innings as he initiated the Thomian fight back when Prince of Wales in pursuit of 163 runs for victory was sitting pretty on 99 for 3 at one stage.

The morning session of the second day’s play saw S. Thomas’ resuming from their overnight score of 24 for 3 underwent a collapse. They lost the remaining seven wickets for the addition of only 80 runs and were bowled out for 104.  Nonetheless the visitors made only a paltry 86 in their first turn at the crease.

Prince of Wales underwent the same fate as S. Thomas’ in the second innings as from a healthy position of 99 for 3 they lost their remaining seven wickets for the addition of only 43 runs as Dellon spun them out for 142 runs.

In the other matches that were in the metropolis saw bad weather hampering proceedings with all the matches being called off early. However Ananda and St. Peter’s recorded easy first innings wins over Maliyadeva and Dharmapala played at Ananda Mawatha and Bambalapitiya.

An allround performance by Sayuru Jayakody who slammed a career best knock of 221 and a match-bag of 9 for 94 paved the way for Loyala College Bopitiya to record an innings and 171 runs win against Dr Kulasinghe MV Udammita at Udammita.
