Man sustains injuries following electric shock
Unprotected high voltage wires running through the Negombo Thewatta junction pose a threat to passers by, residents said. On Thursday a man got an electric shock at the Thewatta Junction when he had gone to remove a banner that was on a four storeyed building. The Negombo Fire Rescue Unit had rushed to the scene of the incident and rescued him.
A fire officer said that when they arrived at the scene the man was lying unconscious on the roof of the building and had suffered severe burn injuries.

He was later admitted to the Negombo district hospital. The 35-year-old victim, a resident of the Puttalam area, said he only recollects that he was instantly drawn to the closest electrical wire and suffered a fracture on the right leg.
“These unsecured high voltage electrical systems are present in proximity to most of the tall buildings in the area,” said the Officer of the Fire Rescue Unit.

However eye witnesses said that the high voltage electrical systems that go past buildings with large billboards supported by iron polls is another concern as they may cause major accidents in the near future.
