Journalist and radio personality Ariyadasa Peiris dies aged 91

Veteran journalist and radio personality Ariyadasa Peiris passed away on Friday (10th ) at the age of 91. Mr. Peiris was a pioneer radio announcer at the Sri Lanka Broadcasting Service’s (SLBC) Commercial Service. Programmes that he presented while at the Commercial Service, such as ‘Ambiga Geethayen Geethaya,’ ‘Pibidena Gaayaka Parapura,’ ‘Vinadiyak Pamanayi,’ and ‘Visithuna’ were immensely popular among listeners.
Mr. Peiris was also a film director, going on to direct ‘Sodhana Sitha’ and ‘Subha’ and produce the film ‘Kusa Paba.’  He was the father of two daughters, including veteran singer Charitha Priyadarshani Peiris and the elder brother of veteran radio personalities Jayantha Peiris and the late Ranjith Peiris. He is the father-in-law of veteran singer Edward Jayakody. His remains currently lie at his residence at No.52, Ariyadasa Peiris Mawatha, Nugegoda. Final rites will take place at 5 pm today (12th ) at the Borella General Cemetery
