Left arm spinner Muditha Lakshan’s four wicket haul supported by right arm pacie Anjana de Silva who took three scalps helped DSS restrict the Thurstanites resuming on their overnight score of 28 for 1 to a score of 162.

The opening day’s play saw Torin Pitigala cracking a 106 ball knock of 87 which included eight boundaries and two sixes for DSS taking first lease of the wicket to end with a modest score of 196.

Mohamed Ahnaf along with Mohamed Shamas, Sajith Sameera shone with the bat while Mohamed Najath and Dilshan Rameez combined with effect with the ball to put Zahira in a strong position against Mahanama Colombo at the end of the first day’s play in the Under 19 match played at Zahira ground in Maradana.

Zahira taking first lease of the wicket was guided by half tons from Ahnaf and Shamas with Sajith’s support saw them post a formidable score of 274 runs.

Later right arm pacies, 14-year-old Mohamed Najath who ended with top figures of 6 for 12 and Dilshan (3/23) ruined the Mahanama batting to skittle them out for a paltry 50 with the innings lasting just 13.1 overs.

Mahanama batting the second time, left with the daunting task of erasing a deficit of 224 runs ended the day on 26 for 1 needing 198 runs to avoid an innings defeat when play begins on day today.

A knock 85 by Udayanga Daladawatte and a seven wicket haul by 15-year-old leg spinner Janindu Jayawardena were the highlights on the opening day’s play in the Under 19 match between St Servatius Matara and Bandaranayake MV Gampaha played at Uyanwatte Stadium in Matara.
