Held for the second consecutive year, Rugby Rumble will take place on the 5th and 6th of September 1pm onwards at the CR and FC. This year Rugby Rumble will be back with an international flavour and have employed the heart and the heart of the Dubai Sevens arena, the famous MC and Animator David Crane who will be bringing the same electrifying skill performance and energy to Longdon Place. This thrilling and fun Seven-a-side Tag Rugby Tournament will bring former college rugby stars to the pitch yet again and this event looks to combine the excitement of the great sport with a carnival like atmosphere which will be topped off with two nights of sensational entertainment that will display both international and locally recognised stars.

Rugby Rumble is a two day affair and will consist of several teams vying for the trophies and the prize money of Rs. 700, 000 from leading rugby schools like Royal, Trinity, S. Thomas, Isipathana, Zahira, Lumbini, D.S. Senanayake, St. Joseph’s, Dharmaraja, Ananda, Wesley, Kingswood, St. Benedict’s and Science colleges. In addition two foreign teams will be joining in the fun the Lanka Lions from Dubai and Qatar. A team will consist of 12 players (eight males and four 4 females) with a constant seven on the pitch (five males and two females) at a given time. There are two segments — the Over-20s and Over-40s. A total of 12 teams will be featured in the Over-20 category while the Over-40s will have ten teams.

The highlight of this year’s Rugby Rumble will be the exhibition match featuring great veteran players from CR and FC and Havelocks. Some of the renowned stars of yesteryear to grace the field are Michael Jayasekera, Savantha de Saram, Ted Muttiah, Hisham Abdeen, Rohan Chinthaka, Alex Nishantha and Pavithra Fernando.

Stepping away from the rugby action, the Rugby Rumble carnival will have a number of fun filled activities for the whole family. Dilroy Fernando, the Tournament Director promises that it will be an unforgettable experience for all those who attend.
