The 9th Under 15 Inter District and Inter Provincial Cricket Tournament 2015 for the Prima Champions Cup will commence on September 1 and will conclude with the Finals to be played at the R. Premadasa International Cricket Stadium on October 1.

Over 800 players from all round the country including the North and East is scheduled to take part in this year’s tournament. 32 district teams will compete against each other and the best district players will be selected to the Provincial teams. Ten Provincial teams will battle for the Provincial championship. The feature of the tournament is the participation of the Northern Province representing Jaffna, Mannar, Vavuniya, Mullaitivu and Kilinochchi.

As this tournament is staged for the 9th consecutive year and it will be launching pad for the budding cricketers to be in the focus of the SLC authorities and the best will be signalled as the future of Sri Lanka cricket. Mahela Jayawardene, the former Sri Lankan cricket stalwart had given his consent in guiding these youngsters as junior cricket is the cradle of Sri Lanka cricket. Sri Lanka Cricket’s endeavour in developing cricket at the grass root level will be a boost with the prowess shown by the youngsters at this competition.

School cricket in Sri Lanka was of a high standard in the earlier years where several schoolboys walked into the national team for their outstanding talents shown in the inter school matches. But sadly same cannot be said about the present standard in the schools and the sponsors, the Prima Group should be commended for their contribution for the upliftment of junior level cricket in the country.

This is a very good opportunity for this youngsters show their talent to catch the eyes of the selectors. As cricketers from all over the country will be in action at the competition a high standard of cricket can be expected and this opportunity will give the schoolboys to make friends and exchange their views on the game and their lives which will enable them to build national harmony.

Niroshan Dikwella and Binura Fernando donned the national blazer while Kusal Mendis, Anuk Fernando, Sadeera Samarawickrema and Priyamal Perera represented the Under 19 team had played in the Prime Champion Cup in the past.
Prima Champion Cup Under 15 District and Provincial Cricket tournaments will undoubtedly help the young cricketers gain their confidence and experience in the coming years. With a view to showcase their cricketing talent the organisers had made arrangements to give every facility for the players and the final will receive live telecast.
