Polling cards can be collected by voters who do not receive them before the August 17 Elections at their respective Post Offices by proving their identity, said Postmaster General D.L.P.R. Abeyaratne. Mr Abeyaratne said they started distributing poll cards from July 29, and by Wednesday (5) nearly 7.3 million cards had been distributed.

Mr. Abeyaratne said necessary security was in place at Central Mail Exchanges and main hubs where undelivered polling cards are returned, to ensure their safekeeping. He said special days were allocated for the distribution of the official polling cards. There are nearly 8,500 postmen on duty islandwide.

“According to the Elections Commissioner’s orders, we have commenced our work. If a person was not at home when the polling cards were delivered, they can collect them at their respective post offices. This service will also be available till 4 pm on election day,” Mr. Abeyaratne added.

The voter can prove his/her identity withhis/her National Identity Card, passport, driving licence or their temporary identity card issued by the police.
