Kalutara: The battle is on for 10 parliament seats

In the Kalutara district too the main parties are carrying out vigorous campaigns for the 10 parliament seats. Twenty two parties and independent groups have fielded 286 candidates. According to the 2014 electoral register, 897,349 voters from 3 27,132 households in the Kalutara District will be eligible to vote at the coming parliamentary elections.

The Bandaragama electoral division, with 133,887 voters, is the largest polling division of the Kalutara District. Horana follows with 122,511 voters while Kalutara has 117,931. Beruwala has 117,033 and Panadura 114,828. The number of voters in Matugama is 108,996 while numbers in Agalawatte and Bulathsinhala are 1 00,040 and 82,123, respectively.

There will be 663 polling centers spread over the 762 Grama Niladhari divisions of the district. Of these 447 polling centers will be mixed (admitting both genders). The office of the Elections Commissioner has arranged vote counting to be carried out at the Pasdunrata National College of Education and at Musaeus College.
