It is intended to enroll 1,800 students to follow Technical Degree courses in 13 universities in 2016, the Consultative Committee of Parliament on Higher Education was told recently.

In keeping with this enrolment plan, each university has been directed to submit development proposals to be included in the Budget to provide facilities for this purpose.

It has also been decided to reduce the intake of students for Arts Degrees from 45% to 20 %, and increase the number taken for Technical Degrees.
Relevant officials have also been directed to submit proposals to diversify Arts Degrees to prepare professional graduates to suit current needs and enable the Education Ministry to recruit 3,000 teachers annually.

It is proposed to introduce more computers into higher education institutes, to enhance the communication skills of students in English, as well as to enhance their knowledge in Information Technology. It has also been suggested to arrange for the computer laboratories within universities to be kept open 24×7.
