Korean funded ICT classrooms handed over

An innovative ICT classroom project was handed over to the students of Mahinda Rajapaksa Vidyalaya, Homagama, by Minister of Education, Bandula Gunwardane, last Wednesday (3).

The project was completed with the Rs 50 million grant by the Korean gGovernment.

The classrooms were equipped with state-of-the-art equipment, while several teacher-training programmes were also conducted by the Korean government.

The classes were each equipped with four smart boards, a smart podium, 41 laptops, 10 IT tablets, A USP machine, a Server, comfortable desks and chairs etc, a statement issued by the Ministry of Education said.

In addition to this, 30 teachers underwent a special training programme at the Mahinda Rajapaksa School, prior to the opening ceremony. The programme was conducted by two Korean trainers, the statement said.

On an invitation extended by Minister Gunawardena, teams from the Korean Ministry of Education and the Korean Telecom Department visited the island in July 2013 and conducted a feasibility study. Consequently, the Korean government decided to provide Sri Lanka with this opportunity, the Ministry of Education said.
