The Ceylon Teachers Service Union (CTSU) has condemned the assault of a teacher of the Dharmaraja Pirivena in Kahamulla, by an SLFP member of the Kuliyapitiya Urban Council

Teacher, Kapila Wijesinghe had been conducting classes, voluntarily and free of charge, on November 30, for students preparing for the GCE Ordinary Level exam, when the assault took place.

CTSU General Secretary, Mahinda Jayasinghe, stated that, unless immediate investigations were instigated, all teachers and principals will resort to drastic action against the act.

The General Secretary also referred to the recent misadventure in Puttalam, when a lady teacher was ordered to kneel in the school premises by a Provincial Councilor.

We draw the attention of the police and relevant authorities to that incident, when such turmoil ensued as we sought justice- the Secretary had stated in a warning tone, before demanding again that justice is done.
