Kelaniya undergrads protest for a new hostel

Over 2000 students of the Kelaniya University launched a protest march this Tuesday (17) against an attack on the university hostel which is situated in Kannangara area of Kelaniya. The protest march which commenced at the University premises at around 9.30 that morning to University Grants Commission where the student union leaders spoke with its Chairperson, Prof. Kshanika Hirimburegama, requesting a new hostel within the university premises. “We came here to ask for a new hostel because it is not safe any longer for the students. We have being repeatedly assaulted and even though we made complaints regarding this no one paid any heed,” said President of the Kelaniya University Student Council, Kensley Gunarathne. The UGC Chairperson agreed to look into the problems of the students.
