The Colombo Municipal Council (CMC) is awaiting its Internal Audit Dept’s report on the destruction of the CMC files.
CMC Mayor M.J. Muzammil told the Sunday Times that the inquiry has not been completed, as they are waiting for the Internal Audit Dept’s observations.

“The Dept is yet to get statements from three Municipal Councillors and the Commissioner of the Council,” he said.
He said that the Local Government Ministry Secretary has requested a report from him and the Local Government Commissioner.

Mr Muzammil said that he has already submitted his observations to the Local Government Secretary.
“The Director of the National Archives has also asked for an explanation from the Municipal Commissioner on how old documents can be destroyed without permission from the Archives,” he added.

The Mayor also said that he had made an official request to the Inspector General of Police to conduct investigations on the burning incident, as there were documents related to laws including the Penal Code and Municipal Ordinance.
