Uyanwatta stadium gets facelift

Being ready for women’s T - 20 world cup

Sri Lanka cricket commenced work on 12 center wickets at the Uyanwatta cricket ground Matara. This ground has been proposed as the venue for practice matches and practices for teams participating in the women’s T-20 world cup to be played at the Galle International Cricket Ground in September 2012.

Sri Lanka cricket's national curator Anuruddha Polonowita and Assistant national curator D A J Sampath are in Matara supervising the laying of the pitches. Four practice side wickets will be laid in addition to the 12 center wickets. Sosindra Handunge Mayor of Matara agreed to

a request made by Chairman Sri Lanka Cricket Upali Dharmadasa and President of the Matara District Cricket Association Dr Ajith Ranawaka to permit Sri Lanka Cricket to give the Uyanwatta Cricket Ground a facelift to bring it to the standard required by the ICC. Sri Lanka cricket is to spend Rs 20million on up grading the Uyanwatta ground.
