Lakshan and Salgado climb Everest

The Bata-the Sunday Times Most Popular Schoolboy Cricketer of the Year 2012 competition
With just a few weeks away from the final post, Thurstan skipper Sajeewa Salgado has stamped his authority of the Bata-the Sunday Times Most Popular Schoolboy Cricketer of the Year 2012 competition. By the end of 18th week of the competition Salgado has managed to secure the leadership of the All-Island category with a staggering margin of 8140 votes from Angelo Jayasinghe of Maris Stella.
Salgado also reached the 18,000 mark this week while Jayasinghe who is trailing behind was just four votes away from the five-figure mark. Jayasinghe, who regained his slot a fortnight ago, after so many weeks, has an advantage of 813 votes from Shiran Anuruddhika who is placed third overall.

However it is doubtful if any of Salgado’s closest rivals, either Jayasinghe or Anuruddhika could force danger to his position as the final days get closer. Anuruddhika, the all-rounder from De Mazenod however has a thick headship margin over Royal Panadura team mates, Charith Ruchiranga and Madhawa Fernando who are placed at fourth and fifth positions respectively. Zahira’s Lakshan Edirisinghe, Kavindu Ashan of Royal Panadura, St. Joseph’s Dishan Dissanayake, St. Peter’s Thanusha Jayawardane, and S. Thomas’ skipper Sachin Peiris still remain in their positions respective.

Emerging Schools category leader Sasindu Perera, of St. John’s Panadura further expanded his leadership by 1367 votes from Tharindu Guruge of President’s College Kotte. Lakshan Kodagoda of Gateway virtually sealed his mark in the International Schools’ category with a massive collection of 33607 votes. The gap between Kodagoda and Nishan Perera of Lyceum Nugegoda has swelled to 13,296. Perera achieved 20311 votes.
